Washington, D.C. — Today, former New York City mayor and public health leader Michael Bloomberg urged Republicans to “rethink” the nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to be the next Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Per the New York Times, Bloomberg used his opening remarks at the Bloomberg American Health Summit to “warn that installing Mr. Kennedy as health secretary would be ‘beyond dangerous,’ and tantamount to ‘medical malpractice on a mass scale.’”
In response, Protect Our Care Chair Leslie Dach issued the following statement:
“Michael Bloomberg understands that RFK Jr. is an existential threat to the health of every American. Instead of following the science and trusting experts, RFK Jr. will promote debunked ideas and conspiracies. His opposition to vaccines will lead to a resurgence of deadly childhood diseases like polio and measles that threaten our children’s lives. He will stop life-saving government research into drugs and cures, and he doesn’t have the expertise or the skills to manage Medicare, Medicaid, or the public health programs that Americans rely on. As Michael Bloomberg said, it is up to Republican Senators to draw a line in the sand and put a stop to this reckless nomination. If RFK Jr. is confirmed, it will cost lives. Period.”
